Former Marine Special Operator (MARSOC)
I joined the Marine Corps at 18 and spent my military career in the infantry for 4 years and in special operations for 5 years. The injuries added up the way they do in that line of work. A dislocated shoulder with a torn labrum. Femoroacetabular impingement with a labral tear in both hips. A torn ACL. A torn ligament in my wrist. Neck, Low back and hip pain that never fully went away.
At 27 I was told to stop rucking and lighten the load on weightlifting, and that I should plan on a hip replacement by 40. That was the whole plan. Rest and wait to be broken.
I did not accept their advice because I knew it was possible to stay strong and fit despite my injuries. So I went looking for a better answer. What I found changed how I think about pain and injury. Pain is just a signal, a warning sign. However, if you chase the signal instead of the source, you stay hurt. So I learned to find the actual cause by addressing mobility deficits, poor movement patterns, weak muscles that could not stabilize my joint and lastly I learned how to load the tissue instead of protecting it, and build a body that holds up under real demand.
PEAK PERFORMANCE TODAY
I am 38 now. I still run on pavement, grapple in jiu jitsu, squat, deadlift, press heavy weights, do gymnastic movements like muscle-ups and handstands, and I do it without pain. No hip replacement. That process is what I built Peak Performance around.
One-on-one care from someone who has been on the wrong end of the "just rest" advice and found the way through it. If you want to go back to the barbell, the mats, the trails, or the box, we know the way and will lead you there.
